Stan and Lucy

Here at the Leeds Marquetry Group we are proud of our one and only Polish member. Stan Szymanski who came to England after fleeing from the German oppression of his native land. Traveling with his parents, infant Stan escaped on a protracted route that took them into Russia, then India and across Europe before finally arriving in England and settling in Leeds. Working as an engineer at Cameron Iron Works, Stan became an active member of the Leeds Polish Catholic Church, and the Polish community that grew from strength to strength across our city. Looking after his ageing Mother who lived to celebrate her 100th Birthday, the dutiful Son remained loyal and committed to the family cause. Now in his maturing years of seventy five, Stan fittingly and finally finds his native bride - Lucia (Lucy), a widow with three grown up children and as many grandchildren. The perfect answer to a man loved by all who know him, and especially by ‘his Lucy’. We wish them many years of love and happiness together, as we here in the group extend our own Polish/English links through their blissful marriage, witnessed in the Polish Church and later, next door, in their Parish Centre and our weekly meeting place.
